Flash Drives
What is a flash drive? It is a portable storage device that you can save all of your computer files to. Then you can use your files on any computer.* In this section we will discuss using the flash drive.

First, we'll take a look at the flash drive itself. You should notice that the metal outside cover has the school district logo on it. From the side, you can see the metal tip of the flash drive. That is the part that goes into the computer. Open the flash drive by rotating the blue part of the flash drive so that inside metal part is pointed away from the metal casing.

Now that the flash drive is ready, locate the USB port on your computer. Some computers have USB ports in front, near the bottom. On other computers, your USB port is on the back.

Once you've located the USB port you are going to use, insert the metal end of the flash drive into the USB port. If it doesn't go in, turn you stick upside down and try again. Make sure the metal tip goes in as far as it goes.

Sometimes a computer will not recognize the flash drive when you first insert it. If you see a message that says USB Device Not Recognized, remove the flash drive from the computer and reinsert it again. Your flash drive should be recognized by the computer.

Once your flash drive has been recognized by the computer, you can start using it to save your files to. The flash drive is called AD-STICK by default. This is where you store files that you want on you flash drive.

*Programs that are needed to run certain files may not be installed on all computers. Some documents may be saved in different versions of the same program and therefore may not open on all computers.
